Labor (?) Saturday Feb 18th was our due date. That night Lina started having some mild pains in kind of regular intervals. We got excited and a bit nervous, but she slept it off. The next day, Sunday, she did have them again, but nothing to write home about (just to write blog about). Last night (Sunday) we went to bed with the same pains coming and going. This morning they persist. Lina feels that this is it. We're still waiting. Time will tell. But they now come every 5-10mins, and even if they're still mild, they have increased in potency.
We're excited and nervous.
Lina just had one: Monday, 9:30am, for 45 secs! We'll go for walking... Keep you posted,
C+L+ pretty soon Sophia :-)

Doc's appointment: Week 39 Another (the last?) doc's appointment came and went with no apreciable changes in Lina's body (sigh). Our spirits are up, but baby Sophia decided to keep the date of her arrival a secret, as the Doc said. So, any day could be the day, with no real way to know exactly when... At least the baby has been real active, so we know that she really likes it at her mama's belly.

Doc's appointment: Week 38 There is significant progress! Lina's effacement is about 50%, the engagement is about -2, -3, and there is opening of ~1cm. We're really hopeful and excited that everything will go fine. It can be any day now, but somehow I feel that Sophia will listen to her father and come exactly at her due date, which is Feb 18th! Will see!

Weekly Doc's appointment Yesterday, Friday, we went for the scheduled weekly visit at Dr. Essig's. Everything looks fine and is normal. The first stage of labor has begun, it might however take another month.
After we left the doc's office, Lina went and got sick. Just a tad, though. Nothing serious, or threatening. A stuffy nose, and sore throat. Barely enough to not go to a party tonight, and stay home and practice for the days to come.

Baby registry We registered for baby Sophia at Babies'r'us. Since friends and family are all over the country and world, it seems that an online baby shower is the best idea. The link is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/babyreg/1D1LT702HZZJQ
Amazing that in three days we'll be in the final month! 18th of February is the b-day.

Sunday morning This morning as we woke up, Lina got a bit worried that she didn't feel the baby for about 5 mins (it's normal for the baby to sleep for half an hour or more, at this time). So, I started talking to the belly, and lo and behold, Sophia started kicking and brushing. What a smart baby (wait until she's out to see how much I drool over her ;-)) she is! Then Lina started singing and she would repond even more! Like dancing to her mother's voice.
Oh God, we'll be completely wrapped around Sophia's finger ...

Breastfeeding class We went through breastfeeding class this evening from 1-4pm. The instructore was great. She gave a lot of information, and was right on the point. She did go a little over time, but Lina and I really liked it. Seems that there is a lot of support at the OSU hospital for moms that want to breastfeed, and that even if things do not go according to a perfect plan, breastfeeding is still likely and the best choice for parents and baby.

Doctor's appointment at End of Week 35. End of Week 35. Monday is 35+1 (that's for my sanity, since I'm always getting confused with the counting).
Today (Friday) we went to see Dr. Essig for our regular appointment. Everything was normal. Lina's pressure and weight were good. The baby's heart rate and height of fundus were excellent. We do like this doc, since he's always reassuring. We're starting to see him every week now. That means that we're in the final stretch. We're hoping for 6 more weeks, but in two we'll be OK.

Baby basics class Today we spent 4 hours talking about basic baby needs with an instructor and several couples (and single moms). The class was so-and-so. We didn't do much hands-on, and the instructor didn't seem to do a good job talking about all the things that new parents might face. Oh well, at least we got a leaflet with some info. A good thing was the time when we talked about how to choose a pediatrician. The other couples were really helpful in that regard.

Doctor's appointment Hello,
We saw Dr. Essig again today. Everything's fine. Lina's pressure was normal (114/72), and the baby's pulse at about 160. When the Doc tried to poke around Sophia kicked back! "This is a normal baby", said the Doc, "one that responds to external stimuli". Father was happy with the normality assessment, and also because he thinks he would do the same :-) We did the pre-certification fro the hospital.

Maternity tour at OSU Hospital Hello again,
Busy day today... Dr's appointment in the morning, maternity tour in the evening. We're happy with the hospital. It seems pretty straightforward. It was really helpful to see all the nicks and crannies.
Tommorow we have the first day of Birthing classes. Another big day on Saturday, when we finish up the Birthing classes.
Over and out,

Second trimester is over Today marks the end of the second trimester of our pregnancy. Two down, one more to go... The baby is alive and kicking (too much some times). Lina's belly's getting bigger... (Christos' belly's getting smaller) Lina's getting clumsier... Christos' getting anxious about the future. I mean the far future, around the end of the century, when little Sophia (by then in her 80's) will have to be integrated with artificial inteligence machines, if she wants to keep pace with the biological-nonbiological mixture of inteligence. Thank you very much Mr. Ray Kurzweil ;-)

It's "La Nina"! Today we found out that we're having a girl! The technician was fairly confident ("I'm about 99% certain that's its a girl... See... there's nothing there!"). They didn't let me use my camera to videotape the ultrasound, so I complained about it. The technician was very good to produce a lot of printed pictures. She also showed us 3D images of our little daughter, which was really cool. More substantially, she has all fingers and toes, as well as eyes, femur bones, heart, stomach, etc (in no particular order).

we're pregnant! Pretty exciting stuff...
We're officially almost 3 months pregnant, and out of the woods for now. Lina is doing great in her health and Chris even better. The mini-us is moving all the time and we have a movie from our last ultrasound to prove it. I guess it must be a blast being in utero!
The due date is February 18th.
We decided to announce it on our blog so that we have a record of everyone's wishes and comments. We hope it's not too impersonal and we'd like to hear from you.
